CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A new hangar, taxiway updates, and enhanced pilot facilities are coming to the Cortland County Chase Field Airport.

The airport will receive a total of $5,021,720 in federal funding, which was announced by US Senator Charles E. Schumer and US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, as part of an almost $63.7 million awarded to various airports in Upstate New York through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement and Airport Infrastructure Program.

Cortland County’s funding will entail $4,806,270 through the Airport Improvement Program, which will be used to update the taxiways in accordance with federal aviation standards and shifting Taxiway A over 40 feet. $215,450 through the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program will be put toward construction of Taxiway B, approximately 85 feet from its current location.

A $2,499,660 aviation grant through the New York State Department of Transportation was awarded to the airport to support the construction of a new airport hangar, pilot lounge, and flight-planning office. Cortland County will provide the rest of the funds needed to complete the construction.
