ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The Tompkins County Legislature has said yes to a new registry.

Modeled after Saratoga County’s concept, legislators voted Tuesday to approve an animal abuse registry. Legislator Christy Bianconi, who introduced the legislation, spoke before the vote.

Someone convicted of animal abuse or neglect would be banned from having animals for five years, and Bianconi says the information would be readily available to the public.

Tompkins County’s sheriff and DA both expressed support for the registry, which was unanimously adopted. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office will oversee the registry.
