ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Free rides have ended for some TCAT riders.

The transit agency offered rides at no cost to EBT card holders during the government shutdown, which allowed some residents to get back and forth to places like food pantries and grocery stores.

“TCAT is proud to have joined with our state and local leaders to assist our most vulnerable residents in their time of need,” assistant TCAT GM Tiffany Walker said. “This was truly an impressive effort that demonstrates how our community members take care of one another when times get tough.”

The shutdown ended Nov. 12, and TCAT has ended their special transportation program on Saturday, Nov. 29 now that SNAP benefits have been restored.
