ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A local non-profit youth organization is receiving state recognition.

On November 20, State Senator Lea Webb presented the Running to Places Theatre Company (R2P) with the New York State Empire Award.

Founded in 2007, R2P brings together students from across Tompkins County to learn important life skills through theatre.

“Running to Places has had a remarkable impact on the lives of young people across our region,” said Senator Lea Webb. “Their commitment to inclusion, creativity, and mentorship strengthens our community and provides students with opportunities that shape their personal academic growth.”

According to Webb’s office, R2P helps build connections that extend beyond the stage, and alumni often credit the program with improving their leadership abilities and sense of belonging.

“Running to Places is truly honored by this recognition from Senator Lea Webb,” said R2P Founder and Artistic Director Joey Steinhagen. “It shines a light on the heart of our mission: making the joys of live theatre freely accessible to everyone – both onstage and in the audience – equitably and at no cost. Like Senator Webb, we aspire to help our community grow more connected, empowered, and inclusive.”
