WASHINGTON, DC (607NewsNow) — A new bill is being introduced by Rep. Josh Riley.

The Faster Labor Contracts Act would require that employers begin bargaining within 10 days of a union vote. Riley says the legislation will put power in the hands of workers, adding it shouldn’t take years to get a contract after voting to unionize.

“When workers vote to form a union, it shouldn’t take years to get a first contract,” Riley said. “Too often, big corporations drag their feet and use delay tactics to wear workers down. This bill gives workers the power to win the fair wages, good benefits, and the dignity they’ve earned.”

According to Riley’s office, it takes over 450 days on average for a contract to be presented after a union vote.

Riley represents the 19th Congressional district.
