LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) — Lansing has support for a proposed moratorium.

The Cayuga Lake Watershed Network is backing the town’s Local Law No. 7, which would ban development projects like a data center for one year. In a letter sent Oct. 13 to the Lansing Town Board, Executive Director Elizabeth Kreitinger called the proposition an “important step” that offers the town more time to review zoning regulations that lines up with goals in the town’s comprehensive plan.

“That plan emphasizes stronger environmental and water resource protections that benefit both the Lansing residents and the broader Cayuga Lake watershed,” Kreitinger wrote. “We encourage taking this time now to align zoning with those goals and to help guide future growth in a way that is environmentally responsible. community-focused, and sustainable over the long term.”

A public meeting on the proposed temporary ban was held in September.
