CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Authorities have announced another arrest in a child endangerment investigation.

According to SUNY Cortland Police Chief Mark Depaull, Heather Hurteau was charged on May 19 with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, which is a misdemeanor.

The 57-year-old Cortland woman is the fourth employee of the campus Child Care Center to be arrested after alleged conduct violations, including corporal punishment. On April 22, Director Aimee Wyatt of Truxton was arrested, followed by the arrests on May 7 of Karen Diescher and Interim Director Kelsi Carlisle, both of Cortland.

The childcare center recently announced a two-week, temporary closure, which began on May 18.

Depaull says the SUNY Cortland Police Department continues to work in coordination with Cortland County Child Protective Services, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and the Cortland County District Attorney’s Office.
