CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A pedestrian was killed Thursday in a Cortland crosswalk.

In a statement to 607 News Now, Deputy Chief Cheyenne Cute said, “the crash occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Court Street as a personally owned mini-van being operated by an Amazon driver made a left turn from Court Street onto Main Street headed South.  A pedestrian was in the crosswalk walking east and was struck by the mini-van.  Both the pedestrian and the mini-van had signals to proceed, however the mini-van had a caution/flashing yellow turn signal and did not yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk.”

“The pedestrian was struck, run over, and suffered serious injuries and has passed away from said injuries.  The operator has been cooperative with the investigation and is currently with detectives.  At this time there are no signs of impairment from the operator,” Cute added.

CPD was assisted by the City of Cortland Fire Department as well as the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and TLC Ambulance Service.

Deputy Chief Cute says additional information will be released today.

This is a developing story.
