Part of Buffalo Street in Ithaca shut down through late November

UPDATE 10/3: The project is delayed. The new start date will be October 7, and the new finish date is December 5.

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A lengthy infrastructure project will impact traffic in Ithaca.

On September 25, crews will begin a water and sewer lines replacement project on East Buffalo Street. The 300 and 400 blocks will be closed through November 28, 2025.

Additionally, the 200 block of North Aurora Street will be shut down until October 6, 2025, and Parker Street will also be closed.

Officials recommend the following detours.

Eastbound traffic on East Buffalo Street -Detour begins on North Cayuga Street

  • Make a right onto N. Cayuga St.
  • Go straight until you reach the E. Green St. intersection
  • Make a left onto E. Green St.
  • Stay to the right onto E. State St.
  • Continue on E. State. St.
  • Make a left onto Stewart Ave.
  • Continue on Stewart Ave. to rejoin E. Buffalo St.

Westbound traffic on East Buffalo Street – Detour begins at Stewart Avenue

  • Make a left onto Stewart Ave.
  • Make a right onto E. State. St.
  • Stay to the right onto Seneca Way
  • Continue on Seneca St. until you reach the N. Tioga St. intersection
  • Make a right onto N. Tioga St.
  • Continue on N. Tioga St. to rejoin E. Buffalo St.
