NYS Health Commissioner responds to Tylenol and autism claims

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A top state official is responding to federal claims about Tylenol.

NYS Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald says there is no conclusive evidence establishing a causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and the development of autism.

It comes on the heels of President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s announcement on Monday linking the country’s rising rate of autism to acetaminophen use during pregnancy.

Dr. McDonald adds that autism is a complex disorder with many contributing factors.

“The claims from the federal administration that the development of autism can be blamed on the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy is irresponsible and scientifically inaccurate,” said McDonald.
