ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The city of Ithaca is looking at a revised budget for 2026.

After discovering a $2.1 million gap last week, City Manager Deb Mohlenhoff is suggesting a stopgap plan that includes reductions to several departments. The Department of Public Works faces $145,000 dollars in cuts–the largest of any department in the city–while the city is proposing raising garage rates to $2.25 an hour and introducing street parking prices on Saturdays.

Also in the proposed stopgap measure is a raisinhg the city’s job vacancy rate no 5.5 percent. Mohlenhoff said her original budget proposal included eliminating 6 positions.

The Common Council agreed last night to table a vote on the stopgap measure to the meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5, which will feature a public comment period.
