ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca is lowering the citywide speed limit.
Signs will start going up next week to mark a drop from 30 miles an hour to 25 later this year. Acting Public Works Superintendent Scott Gibson says reducing the limit is an important step in making streets safer for everyone.
“This fall, as the new signs are installed throughout the City, we are asking drivers to slow down, pay attention, and help us build a culture of safer, more considerate travel,” Gibson said. A few miles per hour can make a meaningful difference when it comes to preventing crashes and protecting the people who walk, bike and live in our neighborhoods.”
The change applies to all streets covered by the citywide policy, so New York-owned roads connected to major state routes will maintain higher speed limits.
