ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A fire chief in the city of Ithaca has a new job.

Officials say Rob Covert is the new deputy state fire administrator with the New York State Fire Commission. During Covert’s time as Ithaca fire chief, he oversaw construction of the new, all-electric East Hill fire station, which opened in June. Deputy Chief Michael Moody is stepping into the role of acting chief.

Chief Covert’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing our fire services and ensuring the safety of our community. We extend our deepest gratitude for his extensive years of dedicated service to the City of Ithaca. We are confident that Acting Chief Moody will continue this legacy of excellence,” City Manager Deb Mohlenhoff said.

Covert was named IFD chief in 2023.
