ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Money is coming to eligible New Yorkers.

The POWER (Protecting Our Wallet Energy Rebate) checks were approved in Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2027 budget to provide one-time energy relief payments to help offset the rising cost of living.

Joint filers making less than $150,000 will receive $200 checks, while joint filer’s making up to $300,000 will receive $150. Single filers making $150k or less will receive $100.

“Too many families are struggling with rising household energy bills and soaring gas prices at the pump,” said Hochul. “And that’s why we’re putting money directly back in New Yorkers’ pockets by sending energy rebate checks to millions of families as part of our affordability agenda.”

To be eligible for a POWER check, you must have filed a timely NYS tax return in 2024, been a full-time resident that year, had income within the required thresholds, and not been claimed as a dependent.

There is no need to apply or sign up. Checks will begin being mailed out on Monday, September 21 and continue through December.
