CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is benefiting from community support.

On September 26, the Cortland Memorial Foundation held its annual Harvest of Gold gala at Greek Peak.

Nearly 200 attendees helped raise $58,000 to support GCMC in improving facilities, expanding services, and purchasing new equipment. The evening also served as an opportunity to honor local philanthropists Steve and Debbie Geibel for their decades of service to healthcare in the region.

“The Geibels have consistently supported the foundation and the Cortland hospital since the 1980s,” said Cortland Memorial Foundation Board of Directors Vice Chair Clint Brooks. “Debbie served on the hospital board of trustees and volunteered as a candy striper years before that. Steve and Debbie have contributed financially to virtually every foundation campaign over the years, including significant support for the Renzi Cancer Center.”

GCMC President Jen Yartym also shared how community fundraising and direct support from Guthrie have impacted the hospital, highlighting the Guthrie Cortland Renzi Health Campus and renovations in the Emergency Department. Yartym says Guthrie has made good on its promises to invest in facilities and technology, which it made over six years ago, when it took over operations at the Cortland hospital.

“We’ve seen the first fruits of that promise in both investments from the Guthrie health system itself and from our philanthropic partners in our region,” said Yartym. “We are dedicated to ensuring that Guthrie Cortland Medical Center is the best it can be, providing complete and easily accessible health care services without the need to travel out of town.”
