ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — School is back in session, and Tompkins County Legislator Shawna Black is stressing safety on the streets.

“Please slow down, there are a lot of kids that are riding bikes and walking to school, and we want to make sure that they’re safe,” Black said during a legislative session on Sept. 2. “Whenever buses have their flashing lights on, cars need to stop well in advance, because typically they’re waving a student across the street, or kids are getting on the bus.”

Classes began this week in Newfield, Groton, and other school districts.
