ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — Two local state lawmakers are looking for protection for energy consumers.

State Senator Lea Webb and Assemblymember Anna Kelles are among several other legislators who signed a letter Wednesday to the state Public Service Commission. They’re seeking to block proposed rate hikes from NYSEG and RG&E, who want to raise rates by double digits. Both companies are under investigation for billing irregularities, with one customer receiving a bill for $68,000.

The lawmakers want the PSC to deny the rate increases.
