The murder trial of a former Cornell University student charged with killing his father inside their suburban Rochester home has been scheduled to begin in September.
A Monroe County Court judge on Thursday set September 14th as the start of Charles Tan’s trial on second-degree murder charges.
Authorities say the teen used a shotgun to shoot his 49-year-old father, Liang “Jim” Tan, multiple times at the family’s Pittsford home in February.
Charles Tan was in court Thursday as his attorney made motions to review the validity of a statement he made to authorities after officers arrived at his family’s home on Feb. 9 and found his father dead.
The judge scheduled a hearing on the motions for later this month.
Tan’s attorneys told WHCU in February that there was a history of domestic violence inside the Tan household dating back more than 20 years.
