Tops Supermarkets has decided to close 27 of its pharmacies inside of stores throughout New York, including in Ithaca and Cortland.
Company officials say the locations aren’t filling enough prescriptions to make it an efficient use of resources.
Tops officials confirm that the stores on Elmira Road in Ithaca and on Route 281 in Cortland will no longer have pharmacies open as of the week of January 19th.
“A business decision was made to close out select pharmacy departments,” said Tops chairman, president, and CEO Frank Curci in a statement, according to Syracuse.com.
The Tops location on North Triphammer Road will see its pharmacy stay open.
The store is directing people to nearby CVS or Rite Aid locations to get prescriptions filled.
