Ithaca, NY (WHCU) – Professor Gretchen Ritter, former dean of Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as the next executive dean and vice provost of the Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences starting August 1st.

She’ll lead the academic hub of the school, overseeing more than 17,000 undergraduate students. Ritter initially came to Cornell in 2013 from the University of Texas at Austin to serve as the first female dean of Arts and Sciences. The Cornell Sun reports she stepped down in 2018 to return to teaching and research with Cornell.

College officials say they’ve made several faculty appointments to help fill Ritter’s vacancy within the government department.
