Officials at TCAT say they have better control over their accounting practices, now 12 months after a woman was accused of stealing nearly a quarter of a million dollars from the agency.
Prosecutors say Pamela Johnson funneled TCAT funds into her own private bank account while working in the agency’s accounting department, and even had remote access to accounts from her home.
TCAT’s Acting General Manager, Alice Eccleston, says they have their financial operations in better order now.
“I feel like we are in a pretty good position right now with regards to those work practices and processes,” Eccleston says. “We’re looking longer term to improve our information technology down the road, and that requires funding, and finding funding sources.”
Johnson admitted to the embezzlement last year. Her attorney said she suffered from a gambling problem.
