A video showing a Cornell University assistant dean being interviewed by a member of an organization known as Project Veritas is still getting attention.
The video was an attempt by the group to ask the school official if a terrorist training camp or speech could be held on campus.
Cornell President David Skorton called it a “shoddy piece of journalism.”
In reaction to that video, two state lawmakers from the region — Southern Tier Assemblyman Chris Friend and Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb of the Finger Lakes — suggested that the state should withdraw its $156 million in financial support for the school.
Ithaca Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton responded Friday to the idea of defunding the state’s land-grant university.
“The idea that we would defund Cornell is just absurd,” Lifton said. “I’m sorry to hear anyone say that’s a reasonable reaction to a problem.”
Critics have said the assistant dean should be disciplined by the school for his comments.
