An Ithaca woman was killed in a 2-car crash on Route 79 in Enfield on Wednesday.

At around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Casella Waste Management truck was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by Paul Carl, 49, of Ithaca, on Mecklenburg Road in the town of Enfield.

Carl was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for head injuries. He’s listed in serious condition.

The garbage truck was parked on the shoulder of the road while the operator was collecting garbage, according to police. The pickup truck was traveling eastbound when the driver failed to notice the garbage truck.

A passenger in the pickup, Ashley M. Hair, 23, of Ithaca, was airlifted to Packer Hospital for “massive head injuries,” according to state police. She was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
