Ithaca, NY (WHCU) – Cornell University sociology professor Anna Haskins has received a $350,000 research grant. It’ll allow Haskins and her team to observe how increased law enforcement and surveillance affects how involved parents are in their child’s education.
The funding aims to support emerging research that improves the lives of young people ages 5-25 in the US. Applicants can focus their proposals in two areas: reducing inequality or improving the use of research evidence according to The Cornell Sun. To conduct the study, Haskins and her researchers will conduct interviews with parents, teachers, principals, social workers and resource officers at three anonymous New York field sites.
They’ll also walk through school environments.
