ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Cornell researchers are trying to find out about lead exposure in wild animals.

The school’s Wildlife Health Lab is leading the study as part of the New York Lead Ammunition Working Group. The working group includes the DEC, Department of Health, Audobon New York, and others.

They’re trying to determine the prevalence of animals that eat the remains of deer hunted with lead ammunition, which can expose both animals and humans to lead. One goal is to identify what wildlife species need to be prioritized for lead testing.

If you have collected photos in recent years on game or trail cameras, the working group wants to hear from you.  Submissions are being accepted through Sunday, August 13, 2023.
