Influx of animals forces Cortland County SPCA to shut doors for one week

The Cortland County SPCA has had to shut its doors again for a time due to an influx of animals.

SPCA officials say they’ve taken in more animals than they expected from a house in Preble where they were called to earlier this month.

Over 40 cats have been taken in and more are expected to come to the SPCA, along with a number of dogs. Initially, when SPCA officials went to the home, they found over 30 cats and about a dozen dogs.

The SPCA will still be able to take calls, but the shelter will be closed until at least October 25th.

Officials are now asking for donations and foster homes to care for the animals. Anyone who wants to help can call the organization at 607-753-9386.
