ROGER WATERS RELEASES FIRST TASTE FROM NEW ALBUM
The long wait for new Roger Waters music is slowly ending, with the Pink Floyd co-founder finally posting the first taste from his upcoming album, Is This The Life We Really Want? The new track, “Smell The Roses,” recalls such mid ’70’s Floyd classics as 1975’s “Have A Cigar,” and the production values of 1977’s Animals. Is This The Life We Really Want?, marks his first new set since 1992’s Amused To Death, and will be released on June 2nd. Waters kicks off a 52-date North American tour behind the new collection on May 26th in Kansas City, Missouri and wraps things up on October 28th in Vancouver, BC.
STYX RETURNING WITH FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 12 YEARS
On June 16th, Styx will return with its first new album in over 12 years with the release of The Mission. The album, which marks the band’s first studio release since the 2005 covers set, Big Bang Theory, is their third with lead vocalist Lawrence Cowan, who replaced Dennis DeYoung in 1999 and first performed on the band’s last original album, 2003’s Cyclorama. Guitraist Tommy Shaw who co-wrote and co-produced the new album, said, “The planets truly aligned for The Mission, and I couldn’t be prouder. It’s our boldest, most emblematic album since Pieces Of Eight.”
Co-founding bassist Chuck Panozzo added: “The Mission is a sincere and honest representation of how Styx built upon where we were in the 20th century in order to go somewhere new in the 21st century. And that’s the gist of The Mission, Styx’s bold sonic voyage into an exciting new frontier with the goal of discovering how the universe’s mysteries unfold — and then creating the perfect soundtrack to accompany it. Light it up, let’s get this show on the road!
According to the press release, The Mission is a concept album, with the plot showcasing, “the viewpoint of the six-person crew enlisted for the maiden voyage of Khedive, the first entry in a new fleet of nuclear-powered interplanetary spacecraft underwritten by the Global Space Exploration Program (or GSEP, for short). The Khedive team consists of The Pilot, a fully hands-on, seat-of-the-pants born leader; a First Officer who serves as the team’s big-brother figure; an Engineer who is skeptical of every phase of the mission but remains confident in his own abilities to make the best of any technical situation; and a Top-Shelf Trio of science, astrophysics, and survivalist experts.”

GOOGLE MAPS ERROR LEADS PIZZERIA CUSTOMERS TO MAN’S HOME: Sometimes people follow G-P-S directions into lakes, and sometimes Google Maps labels your house as a pizzeria. An Australian man said unwanted visitors have been streaming to his home after Google Maps mistakenly labeled it as a pizza joint. Michael McElwee, age 69, said it seemed like a simple mistake had been made when someone showed up at his Darwin home to deliver magazines meant for a pizza restaurant, but soon another person showed up seeking a job at a pizzeria. He soon discovered Google Maps incorrectly labeled his house as Cucina Sotto Le Stelle, a pop-up pizzeria located in a park near his home. The error was reported to Google, which has since corrected the map to put Cucina Sotto Le Stelle in the correct location. (UPI)
