- FYI: Sad news from the rock world this week. Frank Beard, longtime drummer for ZZ Top, has passed away at the age of 77. Beard joined ZZ Top in 1969 and helped bring bassist Dusty Hill into the fold, completing the legendary trio alongside Billy Gibbons. For more than five decades, his unmistakable backbeat was an essential part of the ZZ Top sound, and he appeared on all 15 of the band’s studio albums.
