THIS WEEK: The Doors on The Ed Sullivan Show “People Are Strange / Light My Fire” live in 1967.

  • FYI: At 3:04 into this performance, you’ll hear Jim Morrison sing the now-famous line: “Girl, we couldn’t get much higher.” Before the show, Ed Sullivan had specifically asked The Doors to change the lyrics to “Girl, we couldn’t get much better.” But in true Morrison fashion, he ignored the request and sang the original line anyway. As a result, The Doors were never invited back to The Ed Sullivan Show.
