- FYI: It was 48 years ago this week (September 14th, 1974) that Eric Clapton scored his first Number One hit with his cover of Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff.” It played a huge role in bringing reggae music into the mainstream. It came off of Clapton’s 461 Ocean Boulevard album, which hit Number One on the Billboard 200 and topped the charts for four weeks.
