THIS WEEK: Paul McCartney & Wings – “My Love”, 1973, From “James Paul McCartney TV Show”

ORIGINAL WINGS GUITARIST HENRY McCULLOUGH DEAD AT 72
Wings’ original lead guitarist Henry McCullough died yesterday (June 14th) at age 72. In 2012, McCullough, who was back living in his native Ireland, suffered a serious heart attack that left him brain damaged and disabled.

Paul McCartney posted a previously unpublished photo him and McCullough on his official website (PaulMcCartney.com) and paid tribute to the guitarist, saying: “I was very sad to hear that Henry McCullough, our great Wings guitarist, passed away today. He was a pleasure to work with, a super-talented musician with a lovely sense of humour. The solo he played on ‘My Love’ was a classic that he made up on the spot in front of a live orchestra. Our deepest sympathies from my family to his.”

Original Wings drummer Denny Seiwell posted: “My dear friend and brother HENRY MCCULLOUGH passed away. His battle is over. Keep his wife Josie in your thoughts he Will be missed.”

Henry McCullough was McCartney’s first lead guitarist in Wings, joining the already formed band in January 1972, touring throughout Europe in 1972 and ’73, and recording Red Rose Speedway, before quitting in August 1973 on the eve of McCartney and Wings’ trip to Lagos to record Band On The Run. He left his mark on such early McCartney solo classics as “Give Ireland Back To The Irish,” “C Moon,” “Hi Hi Hi,” “Mary Had A Little Lamb,” “My Love,” “Big Barn Bed,” “The Mess,” “Country Dreamer,” “Best Friend,” “When The Night,” and “Live And Let Die.”
