Walking the Country II

Chris Allinger is cleaning up his backpack and shining up his sneakers for another stroll for a good cause:

Walkin’ The Country II

Presented by CSP Management

On Monday, September 9th, Chris will set out on another week-long quest for money to support the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s BackPack ProgramTM.  His walk will take him to every town in Tompkins County collecting donations.  At close to 100 miles this year, that’s a lot of footsteps for a whole lot of children.

The Food Bank’s BackPack Program™ provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when children do not have access to free or reduced price school meal programs. Each Friday children in need receive a bag of simple, easy to prepare food to get them through weekends and holidays. These children, who rely on school lunch programs for sustenance, would otherwise go hungry when school is out.

Last year, Chris’s walk raised almost $20,000 for this important program.  This year his goal is the same as last year: “I want $3.00!”, he says with a laugh, “That’s what it takes to fill up one backpack and every time I get another $3.00, that means another kid will have a backpack full of food.”

Here’s a rough schedule of where Chris will be walking each day:

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
