CHECK IT OUT
: Foreigner “Feels Like The First Time” from ‘Live in Dortmund’ 12/19/1981:

Foreigner has announced a 40th anniversary summer tour with support by Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. The 36-date North American trek kicks off on July 11th at Syracuse, New York’s Lakeview Amphitheater and wraps nearly two months later on September 9th at Auburn, Washington’s White River Amphitheatre.

In addition to co-founding guitarist Mick Jones, the current lineup of Foreigner includes frontman Kelly Hansen, bassist Jeff Pilson, rhythm guitarist and saxophonist Tom Gimbel, keyboardist Michael Bluestein, guitarist Bruce Watson, and drummer Chris Frazier. Joining the band at select dates will be original Foreigner members Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald, and Al Greenwood. Coming soon from Rhino is 40 – Forty Hits From Forty Years, a career-spanning, 40-track double disc compilation, which includes two newly recorded songs, “The Flame Still Burns” and “Give My Life For Love.”

Mick Jones said in a statement announcing the tour: “I never could have imagined when I set out to create Foreigner 40 years ago, that we’d still be touring around the world and performing the music we love all these years later. I can’t express the gratitude I feel when fans share stories of how our songs have been woven into their milestones and memories over the years. This summer we are going to celebrate these songs, and I can’t imagine a better group of friends to share this monumental tour with, than Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham who are sure to make it a true tribute to the everlasting power of rock and roll.”

FOREIGNER REUNION CONFUSION CLEARED UP
Lou Gramm started yesterday (January 9th) wanting it known — he had not been asked to perform in any capacity during Foreigner’s 40th anniversary tour. Gramm took to social media to clear up the confusion after the band’s summer trek with Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience was announced. Earlier this week, we chatted with Foreigner leader Mick Jones who told us, quote, “We’re doing some appearances with some of the old members of the band — Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood and Lou Gramm is coming to do a song, or two, on the summer tour — not on the whole tour, but some appearances.”

Gramm posted a message several times on his Twitter account stating:

I Have Not been asked to Join Any Part of the SUMMER 40th FOREIGNER ANNIVERSARY Tour 2017
— Lou Gramm (@GrammLou) January 9, 2017

Gramm, who quit Foreigner for the second time in 2002, spoke to
DemocratAndChronicle.com, and explained that Jones’ comments about him appearing on the tour were a mistake, saying, “I got a call from Mick’s manager. He said it was a slip of the tongue, he really didn’t mean that. . . If it was one-off show to celebrate something. Mick and I are on pretty good terms now, and he’s had his band together for seven or eight years. I don’t know how they would feel if I got up there, it might throw a wrench in the whole thing. Musicians can be very possessive with their possessions.” Gramm also revealed that he would be retiring from performing after his own 2017 dates: “I’m tired of the business. It’s time to hang up the mic. The business has changed. The biggest part for me was knowing you were promoting material that’s new and fresh. That hasn’t been the case for me in 25 years.”

Last night, Gramm finally tweeted that, indeed, he would be taking part in some of Foreigner’s summer dates: “After 24 hours of some crossed wires and miscommunication, I can confirm that I and the rest of the original band have been invited to join Foreigner for a song or two at any show during this 40th anniversary year. (Drummer) Dennis Elliot and (bassist) Rick Wills will be in St. Augustine, FL on 2/24. (Multi-instrumentalist) Ian McDonald, (keyboardist) Al Greenwood and I will perform on a date yet to be determined.”

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
