Woman gives kids to stranger on trip to find ‘Walking Dead’ actor

A Mississippi woman, who police say was suffering from a mental breakdown, packed her three kids into a car and drove to Georgia in search of “her man.”

The Clarion Ledger reports Melody Lynch, 32, cooked breakfast for her husband before leaving on a trip in search of “The Walking Dead” actor Norman Reedus, but along the way ran out of gas early Sunday morning along an Interstate in West Point, Ga.

“She flagged down a car and gave her kids to a complete stranger and told the motorist to take them to the police department,” said West Point Police Department Captain Robert Fawley.

After taking the kids to the police, the motorists directed authorities to where the kids were picked up. That’s where they found Lynch.

Lynch told police when they arrived that she was headed to Atlanta to watch filming of the AMC TV series filmed in Senoia, Ga. about 40 miles away from where Lynch ran out of gas.

After reaching out to the woman’s husband, police took Lynch and her children, between the ages of six and ten-years-old, to a shelter in LaGrange.

Sunday night Lynch reportedly left her children to go for a walk. At around 8 p.m., police received a “burglary in progress” call from a neighbor who observed a woman take a chair from her backyard and use it to break the window of a vacant house.

When police arrived at the home, they found Lynch inside “sweating profusely.”

Lynch told police she had broken into the house because she thought she had left her children there but could not find them.

In the mean time, Lynch’s husband had arrived from Mississippi and was on his way home with their children when he got a call from police about his wife.

Police took Lynch to the hospital for evaluation. Due to her mental condition, no charges have yet been filed.
