Capitol Christmas tree makes cross-country journey

WASHINGTON (AP) — A cross-country trip is now over for Washington’s latest attraction.

The Capitol Christmas tree arrived at the U.S. Capitol this week.

It’s from a forest in northeast Washington state.

On its way east, the tree made stops in Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Donations are covering the cost of the trip.

Organizers say it will be decorated with more than 5,000 handmade ornaments, from children across the country. The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 5.
