Sunday rain brings flooding to Ithaca

Rain showers brought on by Sunday’s storms was the cause for some localized flooding in the City of Ithaca.

City Chief of Staff Kevin Sutherland says parts of Adams, First and Lincoln streets saw some flooding due to backed up storm water drains.

The worst of the flooding was on Lake Street behind Ithaca High School, where Sutherland says DPW crews have been working to clean up the area.

Sutherland encourages having sump pumps in flood prone areas, which were instrumental in removing water during severe flooding in January due to ice jams in City creeks.

He says people who need assistance in removing standing water in or near their homes to call the Police non-emergency line at 272-3245.
