Nearly 13 years later, Cal Harris makes plea on national TV

Calvin Harris, who is set to go on trial for the third time on allegations he murdered his wife, appeared on the CBS program 48 Hours, Monday, June 9, 2014/CBS

Cal Harris goes on trial in September for a third time in connection with his wife’s disappearance in Tioga County in 2001.

Monday night, Harris gave an interview to CBS’s “48 Hours” to discuss the case, and publicly denied any involvement in her disappearance.

“I’m being put in a position that no one should be put in,” Harris told CBS’s Erin Moriarty. “That is, I’m having to try and solve this case to save myself, so I can be with my children.”

Michele Harris disappeared in September of 2001, and her body has never been found.

A third trial for Cal Harris will be held in the eastern part of the state in Schoharie County, because of the media attention the case has received in our area.

Also on Monday’s show, Cal Harris’ children talked about their belief that their father was innocent. Back in March, Harris and his kids held a news conference in Owego to announce the creation of a tip line for anyone with information about the disappearance of Michele Harris.

The family of Michele Harris also spoke to CBS for the show.

“It’s been 13 years almost of hell,” said Greg Taylor, Michele’s brother. “We had the first trial — he was found guilty. The conviction was thrown out. Finally had a second trial. He was found guilty again, and the conviction was overturned.”
