Over $2.1 million from the federal Department of Transportation is going to the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport for infrastructure upgrades.

About $1.7 million of the funds will go toward expanding the terminal apron to provide more parking for aircraft and increasing the size of the deicing area so the airport can treat multiple planes at once.

Roughly $477,000 will pay for new snow removal equipment.

The expansion of the terminal apron will due away with a queue, leading to more efficient travel times.
