As New York State continues to battle the problem of heroin and opioid abuse, local emergency responders have a tool to combat the issue.

Ithaca Fire Lieutenant Tom Basher says all trucks now carry the anti-overdose drug Narcan, and firefighters are fully trained to use it.

He says while Narcan is just a “band-aid” to the problem, he believes if its used to save someone, it could turn their life around.

Basher says having all first responders equipped with Narcan will help save more lives.
