An early morning attempt at a traffic stop in Dryden ended with four people being arrested for making meth.

Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull a green Chevy Prism over in the village of Dryden just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Deputies determined the car was stolen, and connected to an investigation dating back to July 25th.

Deputies say the driver fled from police, and eventually drove into Cortland County on Route 392.

Deputies there eventually put down a “stop stick” on Route 11, causing the driver, Brian Mahan, 41, of Freeville, to swerve off the road and hit a tree.

Mahan allegedly fled the scene, but was found walking on Interstate 81 in Virgil about an hour later.

Deputies were able to detain Jennifer Castro, 39, of Freeville, and Luke Morrow, 19, of Dryden, at the scene of the accident. A fourth person, believed to be a minor, was not identified by deputies.

Cortland County investigators say the suspects threw items out of the car while fleeing during the car chase. They later determined the items were methamphetamine “one pots,” used for the manufacturing of the drug. Deputies found two of the objects along Route 392 after they were thrown out of the car. They also found items used to make meth inside of the stolen car.

Three of the suspects were taken to the Tompkins County Jail, where an unknown bail amount was set. Mahan, however, was taken to jail without bail. Deputies in Tompkins County say Mahan was involved in a chase in Lansing on July 9th. He now faces charges for that incident as well.
