Former city, county lawmaker Stuart Stein dies at age 84

A well-known and well-respected lawmaker in the Ithaca area has died.

Stuart Stein died this week at the age of 84.

Stein worked in Cornell’s Department of City and Regional Planning for more than three decades, but was known around the area for his time as an elected official.

Stein first served as an Ithaca city lawmaker in the 70’s, and then in the early 80’s, he was elected to serve in county government.

Stein spent time in the mid 90’s as the chairman of the county board, before stepping away in 2001.
