The City and Town of Ithaca will soon begin discussions on a new 5 year contract for fire protection services from the Ithaca Fire Department.

The IFD faces another year of personnel cuts in the City’s 2015 budget talks, and Town Supervisor Herb Engman says both municipalities may not be able to afford the same level of fire costs that they had in the past.

Engman says it could be time to take a look at personnel salaries at the Fire Department, which he says are almost double of the average city worker.

Engman says discussions may be had about emergency response, and which departments or services will respond to certain incidents.
